Relay for Life is a high-spirited, 24-hour event filled with fun, fellowship
and festivities plus some exercise, where people team up to increase public
awareness about cancer, that raises funds for the American Cancer Society to
find a cure for cancer, and for the Make Sense Foundation®
to help women and children in need. Relay for Life spans a period of time over
24 hours, symbolizing the fact that cancer never sleeps, and the needs of women
and children in crisis never end. Each MSF Team member (teams are groups of 1
to 20) ‘take turns’ walking around a track for increments of approximately 30
minutes up to 2 hours each (you decide).
The event was held on a high school track where our MSF team of 10 to 20 people
joined other families, friends, corporations, and churches to participate in
the relay.
Cancer survivors were honored as they kick-off the event by walking the first
lap and honored as they circled the track for the last leg of the relay. At the
end of the relay, an awards ceremony was held in celebration of the
participants and to honor their accomplishments.
During the relay, a community party atmosphere is created by each team pitching
tents, camping out and enjoying live music, dancing, food, games and lots of
camaraderie! A SeneGence®-Make Sense Foundation®
Tent will be provided by SeneGence® as a rest area for our MSF Teammates and
friends and family ... or if you decide to stay the night!
Near dusk participants and community members are invited to take part in The
Mile of Hope@, a candlelight-luminaria ceremony honoring cancer survivors and
remembering those who lost their battle against cancer.
